Day 1 : 15 March 2005
The Arrival
There I was standing at Johannesburg International Airport, waiting for the arrival of the four fanatic golfers. Next to me was the pre-arranged cab driver. My car couldn't fit 4 golf bags + 4 luggages. At that point, I had no doubt that the only one who would remotely pack her entire house was my aunt. I was pretty certain that the other 3 were light travellers. Anyhow, it was great having the cab driver there. At least someone to chat to whilst I stood there in a state of daze....
First signs of SQ passengers came strolling out.... nope. Not them. I didn't have to strain my eyes too hard to spot my aunt. There are only that many oriental ladies with a glorious head full of stark-white hairs. It did not take too long before white-hair came into sight.
Velkarm! Velkarm!
Velkarm to SA!
Hug, hug.
And there was M.E. standing behind my aunt. Ahhh.... so she's M.E.. The one I have been corresponding with. Definitely very nice to finally meet her.
We proceeded straight back to my house, with my aunt (AA) and M.E. in my car, whilst Jo and her husband (a.k.a. the wildest golfer - TWG) went with the cab. Along the way back, AA started relating their fantastic flight and how they had 3 seats each to themselves. She continued to express how smooth customs clearance was.
Smooth customs in SA?
I did clear my earwax the night before....
Am I in twilight zone?
I insisted it was just sheer luck.
We took the day easy and I gave them a brief "city-tour" of Johannesburg. How can I miss out letting them see our "lovely city centre". Driving through the city centre is always a rough experience for a first-time visitor. We stayed in for most part of the day, a chance for everyone to rest a little before the intense golf-tour started and adjust to the 6 hour time difference between Singapore and SA.
Wine and dine at Montego Bay Seafood Restaurant... of course I had to bring them to Sandton. It IS the "posh" mall in SA, no?
