I can hear the signature 'Twilight Zone' ringing in my ears.
I feel ___________
Bleah.
I woke up past noon but it felt like my usual 7-8-ish sort of timing.
Placid.
I looked at the time on my computer - 12:15 p.m.
Can't be......
I double-checked on my mobile phone - 12:15 p.m.
Whaaaaat?!?!?!
Dazed.
Could it possibly be midnight?
I looked at the sky.... bright as 'ell.
Definitely day.
Did I sleep through an entire day?
Is it Wednesday or Thursday?
Dazed AND confused.
I clicked open the first email that downloaded into my inbox.
Dear Owners/tenant, please take note:
-We do not supply remote controls. please bring your own to be changed.
-The guys were here on Monday & will be coming back for the last time on Wed, 18:30 - 19:30.....
Shit (again).... I've not bought my new remote (since I lost it last November). Seurity in this complex has been heightened since that hijacking case. As of tomorrow, security guards are not allowed to open the automated gate for residents (i.e. me), and when the management finally thinks of a brilliant security measure, security guards will cease to carry the remote control. What a pain... but oh well... if I MUST get the remote, I must.
But have I missed the deadline?
Today is Wednesday, right?
Or is it Thursday?
Not amused.
I was in a serious state of disorientation.
I clicked on the desktop calender.
July 20, Wednesday....
Didn't feel like it.
I made myself a cup of coffee as I tried to gather my thoughts. Everything felt so _______. I couldn't recall the last time I managed to sleep till noon but it was more a feeling of having just slept 36 hours rather than 8 hours that caused the disorientation. What was even bizarre was the fact that I have no recollection of my alarm going off AND didn't receive any phone calls at all! Normally, I would have received my first work call by 0900 hours so oversleeping was not an issue. But zilch on the phone calls? Strange. Unconvinced, I checked my phone to be absolutely sure I wasn't dreaming. No missed calls.
Presumed Wednesday.
I mentally ran through my 'to-do' list for today whilst I started on my second cup of coffee and played my customary round of Spider Solitaire.
- Drop fabric swatches off to buyer (which was supposed to have been in the morning)
- Meet up with the other buyer (which was supposed to have been in the morning too)
- Collect price tickets
- Remember to check if samples are approved.
- Buy new remote (still mentally hoping that it IS Wednesday)
- Maybe grocery shopping whilst buying new remote
- Send off price tickets to factory
- MAYBE number crunching (note : MAYBE! Didn't do.....)
- Get remote tweaked at 1830 hours
- No idea. Hope I'm still on Wednesday.
I learnt something new today. I always thought that all remote controls were the same, regardless whether they have 1 or 2 or 3 buttons. In my mind, it was just a matter of design. Some nicer than others, but mainly cumbersome ugly objects that take up too much space in the handbag.
"Hi. How can I help u?", asked the friendly, pleasantly dressed (ok... I liked his white shirt with a 'G' flocked-type logo at the chest. I couldn't make out what brand that was. Maybe G-Star? Not sure...) and good-looking sales guy at the 'Home Security Shop'.
"Erm... I'm looking for that remote thing for gates?", I replied as I stared at the many remotes pinned on the wall.
"What kind is yours?", Mr G-Shirt asked.
"Errrrr.... I don't know? I lost my remote eons ago.... You mean I can't buy any remote and all can be adjusted to work?", I asked, stupidly.
"No. Each remote has different transmission. What did yours look like?", he answered and gave me the 'what-an-idiot' smile.
Dang.
And I was hoping I could get myself a nice funky looking one.
I HATED the looks of the remote, mainly because it is red & black in colour.
I hate anything that contains red (or in the red family - especially pink).
I pointed to the oblongish red and black remote on the wall.
"I think it is that one. I think so.... But what if I'm wrong? ", I asked without much thought. A wave of doubt as I saw a few variety of single-buttoned red and black remotes on the wall.
"Don't worry, you can bring it back and change it.", Mr G-Shirt answered with irritation in his voice.
"Yeah. And today is the last day I can get my remote adjusted so I'd better get this right", I retorted with equal irritation.
"Your remote is the red and black one right?", he asked in a softened tone.
I nodded.
"Then it should most probably work", Mr G-Shirt reassured me.
It is the right one, thank God!
Not like my bunch of keys is not bulk enough but that hideous cumbersome red & black remote has been added onto my keyring.
I NEVER knew that buying a damn remote can be such a mind-boggling affair.
One button or two buttons or three buttons?
Red and black, or blue and black or? or?
I don't know and I don't care... anymore!
Just give me the one that works with this damn gate!
So that was pretty much my day.
Doing everything in a dazed state.
As a consolation, I indulged myself with four new books to my reading list.
All by Roald Dahl (don't we love Roald Dahl?).
If I can't decipher my day and put my scattered brains together, I might as well sink further into lala land.
Just for the record, it is Wednesday - though at the back of my mind I still insist it is Thursday. Maybe when I wake up tomorrow, I'll think it is the weekend.
Or so I wish...
I wish....

Baby K,
How's your vocal tone-down practise coming along? I hope you're working real hard at it.
Don't we just love remote controls? Aunty Snuffy swears by them. Save the chewings and savour it for when Lil Foofy comes along....
And how was your weekend?
Aunty Snuff
